This 7/8th cello was probably built around 1750 in the Flanders region of Belgium.
The cello has a two-piece back of maple. The sides and headstock are also made of maple. The top is made of medium-fine spruce. The cello is varnished in a dark-brown lacquer with dark-amber undercoating.
The cello has had several repairs and is in good condition.
The dimensions of this (7/8) cello:
- upper width 33 cm
- narrowest width 22 cm
- bottom width 41 cm
- body height (to the heel) 73 cm
- the scale is 68 cm
- the cello fits in an ordinary cello case.
The current setup consists of:
- ebony tailpiece
- Wittner tuning pegs with integrated fine-tuning
- Belgian cello bridge
- ebony fingerboard
- steel pin.
String setup
The cello is strung up with Thomastik Rondo on A and D and Thomastik Spirocore Tungsten strings on the G and the C. The final setup for this instrument can be chosen by the buyer, in the sound optimisation proces where the buyer will be supported by cellist and cello-string-specialist Mirjam Daalmans from the Gallery.
