This is a quality cello bow from the Dutch bowmaker Jan Strumphler:

- round stick of medium-brown Pernambuco
- ebony frog with Parisian eye of silver ring and mother-of-pearl center
- three-part silver and ebony button
- fine leather grip and silver windings with black-silk linings
Jan Strumphler was born in Haarlem in 1958. From 1984 to 1987 he studied violin making at the Newark School of Violinmaking in England. After this he went to work for the renowned bow maker Matthew Coltman in London. In 1989 he returned to the Netherlands and established himself as a bow maker in Vleuten.
There, in his own workshop, he has since been engaged in new construction as well as repair and restoration of bows. From 1997 to 2017, Jan was secretary of the Dutch Group of Violin and Bow Makers (NGV).
